Dayton Playhouse Announces Success of HVAC Campaign! Dayton, OH – The Dayton Playhouse board of trustees has announced the installation of a new heating and air conditioning unit at its theatre at 1301 E. Siebenthaler Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45414. A capital fundraising campaign was held for this much needed replacement. According to Brian Sharp, chairman of the Playhouse board, “Our patrons were left sweltering last summer when our air conditioning gave out in July, during our FutureFest new play festival. Then in January our furnace gave its final performance during rehearsals for Nunsense. Our volunteers and audience members were very understanding, but we had to move quickly to restore comfort. We were thrilled with a $20,000 grant provided through funds at The Dayton Foundation. This generous gift was a real asset in helping us raise the additional $8,000 needed. Our board and patrons were very generous. The new unit is installed and paid for, and we couldn’t be happier.” The Dayton Playhouse is celebrating 25 years in its current facility, which was built for the group by the City of Dayton in 1987. The Playhouse was once sponsored by the City and managed by a staff of City employees. Over the past several years, City support has dwindled due to budget cuts and the group is now all-volunteer and self sustaining. “It has been quite an adventure moving to an all-volunteer set up and taking on all of the building needs, but this recent success is a reflection of the dedicated board and loyal volunteers that make up the Dayton Playhouse,” said Sharp. “Some of our volunteers have been with us for almost 50 years and some are new this year. This is a thriving group of talented and dedicated individuals of all ages. We have more fundraising to do to upgrade and maintain our building, but we’re taking a quick breath and enjoying our success on this effort.” The Playhouse will present “The Sound of Music,” written by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse from May 11-27; with the relief that no matter what the temperature, everyone will be comfortable. Since 1921 The Dayton Foundation has been helping people help others in the Dayton community and beyond.
