ff2012

It's our 22nd year for Dayton Playhouse’s one-of-a kind New Works Play Festival. We look forward to seeing your work!

FEES: No entry fee. No limit on number of submissions.
ELIGIBILITY:
  • Entry must be an original work (NO musicals or plays for children) that has not been published or produced where admission was charged prior to FF 2012.
  • Staged readings/workshop productions would not necessarily be disqualifying factors.
ENTRIES ACCEPTED: Accepted between August 1st and October 31st
SCRIPTS:
  • Submit a blind copy typed in standard play format with pages numbered.
  • Script should be securely bound - NO STAPLES or CLIPS.
  • Include list of characters/descriptions and synopsis of play.
  • Script should be accompanied by cover page listing title, playwright contact information (address, phone #, e-mail address) and resume.
CONSENT:
  • Playwright gives Dayton Playhouse permission to photocopy scripts for reading/production purposes.
  • Semi-finalists will need to provide a PDF of their script.
  • Should script be selected and produced as one of the 6 finalists, playwright agrees to attend the weekend festival and participate in all events.
  • Finalists must acknowledge the Dayton Playhouse if/when script is published.
  • The winning playwright awards the Dayton Playhouse the option to produce play as part of its main stage season free of charge.
AWARDS: A $1000 honorarium will be awarded to the winning playwright; runners up each receive $100. The Dayton Playhouse provides the 6 finalists travel (within the continental U.S.) to Dayton, OH and housing for FutureFest weekend.
SELECTION PROCESS: Every entry is guaranteed a minimum of 3 reads/evaluations, with the last 18-20 being read by all members of the first committee, who then vote on 12 semi-finalists. A second committee selects the 6 finalists. During FutureFest weekend, the plays are staged and publicly adjudicated by a panel of 5 theatre professionals (New York based and regional). Following the final production of the weekend, the adjudicators meet and select the winner.
NOTIFICATION: Due to the sheer volume of entries received, only semi-finalists/finalists will be contacted. To confirm receipt of script, include a SASP. Scripts will not be returned. Script evaluations will not be provided. Finalists will be posted on the Dayton Playhouse website (www.daytonplayhouse.org) in May 2012.
